Military & Family Readiness Center
The Military & Family Readiness Center (M&FRC) provides programs and services designed to strengthen and support those affiliated with the military. Programs and services include the areas of finance, relocation, transition assistance, employment, personal & family work life, deployment, Exceptional Family Member Program, volunteering, and more.
M&FRC services are provided on a walk-in basis, with a few exceptions. Services are available to military personnel and their families and DOD civilians and their families.
Programs & Services
AFAS helps relieve the distress of AF members and their families during a financial crisis. AFAS can assist with vehicle repairs, rent, basic living expenses, and various other situations. The Falcon Loan program assists active duty Air Force families with an interest free loan of up to $1000 for emergencies. AFAS community enhancement/special programs include Bundles for Babies, Nursing Moms, Child Care for PCS, Car Care Because We Care, Give Parents a Break, and Respite Care.
AFFF is a long-term aftercare program for survivors of fallen Airmen. Ensures that the families of our fallen Airmen are never forgotten by providing immediate and periodic long-term compassionate support no less than five times during the first year of the date of death.
AFW2 assists combat-related ill/injured Airmen and their families in receiving world-class personnel services and support, extended transition assistance, and five-year case management follow-up.
Losing someone is never easy; A&FRC provides prompt and dignified notification as well as compassionate, thorough, and efficient assistance to family members. It is imperative that service members ensure their next of kin information is updated in vRED.
The vRED provides the SOLE source of contact information for your primary next-of-kin, secondary next-of-kin, and other persons to notify in case of an injury, death or emergency. The vRED also serves as the official document required by law for designating beneficiaries for Death Gratuity, Unpaid Pay and Allowances, and the Person Authorized to Direct Disposition (PADD).
Held once a month, this is an open discussion with other deployed spouses. This group is designed to provide an opportunity for family members who are separated from their loved ones due to extended TDYs, deployments, and remote tours and to network and help each other during stressful times. Meals are provided, various activities for adults and for children with opportunity to discuss separation issues with A&FRC and various WPAFB helping agencies.
Are you looking for a job or thinking about a new career? Are you seeking to supplement your income? Employment Assistance services include application and resume assistance, job referrals, career counseling and planning, interview preparation, educational information, and career/personal development workshops. A resource room with computers and job vacancy board are also available.
This program is designed to give information to military families with members in need of special assistance. The EFMP-coordinator provides educational and medical resources from many local, state/county, and federal agencies, to accommodate the special needs member and their family.
I&R networks with counterparts both on- and off-base for social, human, and behavioral services. I&R has information on the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program, food stamps, adoption, immigration, counseling services, and many other human service programs. Regardless of the question, if we don’t know the answer, we will do our best to find someone who does.
Personal and Family Readiness assists members before, during, and after family separation. When members are on remote tours or TDY for more than 30 days, families are placed in stressful situations. Pre-Deployment Briefings are provided to help reduce this stress and their families are aware of Airman & Family Readiness Center (A&FRC) services and know how to prepare for personal issues related to the separation. This office also serves as a focal point for family members to call when they do not know where to go for assistance while dealing with a military related separation.
Free weekly 15-minute morale call to the deployed member.
Coordinates with squadron representatives serving as “Key Spouses” - focal points linking families, squadrons, and agency support when families are in need.
The Loan Closet supports military and civilian personnel during PCS moves. The loan closet has basic household items and car seats for short-term use.
The MFLC program provides non-medical short-term, situational, problem-solving counseling services to address issues that occur with military life. Also, helps service members and their families cope with normal reactions to stressful and adverse situations.
Family Life Education (FLE) includes proactive programs that help base personnel adapt to challenges in their lives. FLE provides assessments and works directly with other support agencies to assist clients dealing with stressful life events.
PFR offers information on investments, budget/checkbook maintenance, saving, debt/credit management, and retirement preparation for those desiring to meet financial obligations and goals. We offer personal financial counseling sessions and educations seminars to give you the tools to meet those financial obligations and goals set.
Relocation Assistance helps personnel learn about WPAFB and other military installations. “Plan My Move” Seminars help those within a few months of relocation. “Kids on the Move” Workshops assist children with relocating to a new area. Newcomers Orientations are conducted each month to provide incoming personnel with information on services and programs available at WPAFB. PCS Childcare allows active duty AF families to receive 20 hours of free childcare when processing Inbound/Outbound.
Transition Assistance provides workshops and mandatory pre-separation counseling for those transitioning from the military. Transition Assistance is designed to provide necessary tools to effectively transition from the military to the civilian community.
VA Benefits Advisors are primarily responsible for assisting transitioning military members and veterans with regards to VA benefits. They assist and inform within areas of VA entitlements such as GI Bill education benefits, Disability Compensation, Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment, VA Healthcare, and the VA Home Loan Guaranty. WPAFB’s local resource on VA benefits for all service members and Veterans.
